Ceremony Doctor Honoris Causa

H.E. Sheikh Saoud Bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, the Secretary General of Qatar Olympic Committee will be awarded the Doctor honoris causa honorary degree of the National Sports Academy (NSA). The decision of the Academic Council was made on February 5, 2013.

The ceremony will be held on April 29, 2013 from 11:30 a.m., in the NSA’s largest hall “Aula Maxima”.

The Rector of the Academy Assoc. Prof. Pencho Geshev and the Vice-Rector of Research, project and international activities Prof. Daniela Dasheva wil be conducting the ceremony.

The doctorate honoris causa awarded to Sheikh Saoud Al-Thani is a highly prestigious academic distinction, granted by the National Sports Academy to a very limited number of the most distinguished persons, who have significant contributions to global development of sports and sports science.

H.E. Sheikh Saoud Al-Thani has chaired many high offices in the sporting world, including the posts of Vice-President of the International Fencing Federation, President of the Qatar Fencing Federation, Board Member of the GCC Sports Commission and Vice President of the Olympic Council of Asia.

His Excellency was also the Director General of the 17th Arabian Gulf Cup - Qatar 2004, Director General of the 3rd West Asian Games in Qatar in 2005 and was a member of the board of the Organising Committee for the 15th Doha Asian Games in 2006, the Board of Directors of Doha Bid for 2016 Summer Olympics, Chairman of the Higher Organising Committee of International Association of Athletics Federations World Indoor Championships Doha 2010 and Chairman of the Higher Organising Committee of 12th Pan Arab Games, Doha 2011.
