About the center

In 2004, as a primary unit within the structure of NSA "V. Levski," the Scientific Research Institute (SRI) began operations. Its activities are overseen by the Vice-Rector for Research, Prof. Petar Bonov, Ph.D., along with the Expert Council for Research and International Activities.

Within the Institute, the “Robert Koch” Medico-Biological Center was established in 2005. The main objective of this new unit is the early diagnosis of socially significant diseases (such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol) and their prevention through sports and a healthy lifestyle. The project was implemented with the support of the Academic Leadership and the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, laying the groundwork for the precise title - International Scientific Institute.

The expansion of research and applied activities led to the Academic Council's decision on 18.12.2012, transitioning the institute into the Center for Scientific and Applied Activities in Sports (CSAAS).

In alignment with the Academy's scientific priorities, the Center's operations focus on organizing and implementing research, experimental, and applied activities in the fields of physical education, sports, and public health. A guiding principle in all CSAAS activities is functional collaboration with the departments and faculties within NSA “Vasil Levski.” CSAAS's work is coordinated with the Vice-Rector for Research and International Activities, Prof. Tatyana Yancheva, Ph.D., and the Academic Council.

The range of CSAAS activities includes opportunities for scientific experiments and the management of research activities for doctoral and master’s students enrolled at NSA; development, execution, or support of national and international research projects; scientific collaboration with educational and research institutions; dissemination and exchange of scientific achievements in the fields of physical education, sports, and public health.

The research and applied activities are carried out by functional laboratories – sports pedagogy, medico-biological, sports psychology, and a scientific-information unit.

CSAAS has an independent facility for integrated research and the necessary laboratory conditions and equipment to carry it out.

The research and technical support staff at CSAAS adhere to scientific ethics, ensuring the confidentiality of information related to research developments.
