NSA and the Sofia Theological Seminary signed a cooperation agreement

The National Sports Academy "Vasil Levski" and the Sofia Theological Seminary "St. John of Rila" signed a cooperation agreement during a working meeting held on July 18, 2025, at the NSA.

Rector Prof. Krasimir Petkov and Bishop Meletiy of Znepole – Rector of the Seminary – discussed the scope of the cooperation, which will include educational-methodological activities and sharing of resources in the fields of sports, spirituality, and science. The meeting was also attended by Father Slavi Spasov, Deputy Rector of the Seminary.

Prof. Petkov introduced the guests to the wide range of activities at the National Sports Academy and its mission to shape successful young individuals who contribute with their competencies to the promotion of a healthy and active lifestyle and to the development of sports in the country.

The agreement provides for the NSA to offer coaches to train Seminary students in sports activities on its campus. In turn, the Sofia Theological Seminary "St. John of Rila" commits to providing clergy to conduct services in the NSA chapel "Sts. Cyril and Methodius" and to hold discussions with the students of the Sports Academy. The idea for the cooperation emerged several months ago during a visit by Seminary students to the NSA and its Educational and Olympic Center.

"I am confident that we will soon see the fruits of this cooperation, which will benefit both the students of the Seminary in their athletic development and the students and faculty of the NSA in their spiritual support through the services at the Academy chapel," said Bishop Meletiy.

The guests showed great interest in the exhibits at the Educational and Olympic Center, where they expressed wishes for continued educational and sports success, and at the end of their visit, they toured the "Sts. Cyril and Methodius" chapel, which is currently under renovation.
