Carlos Nassar is the recipient of the “Sporting Icarus” award for the second consecutive year

For the second consecutive year, Carlos Nassar is the winner of the grand “Sporting Icarus” Award of the Year of the “Bulgarian Sport” Foundation. The student of the National Sports Academy “Vasil Levski” earned the unanimous recognition after winning his third European title in 2025 at the championship in Moldova and claiming a gold medal in the total, setting a world record in the clean and jerk at the World Championships in Norway.

The Team of the Year award unanimously went to the volleyball players who won silver medals at the World Championship in the Philippines. Students of the Sports Academy are captain Alex Grozdanov, Venislav Antov, and Damyan Kolev, while assistant coach Andrey Zhekov is also an alumnus of the NSA.

The 33rd awards ceremony of the “Sporting Icarus” prizes will take place on 19 December 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the Grand Hotel “Sofia”. Almost all of this year’s award recipients are students and alumni of the Academy.

Category “Championship Longevity”: Radoslav Yankov (snowboarding).

Category “Team of the Year”: Bulgaria Men’s National Volleyball Team.

Category “Impressive Performance”: Albert Popov (alpine skiing), Tervel Zamfirov (snowboarding).

Category “Breakthrough in World Sport”: Simeon Nikolov (volleyball), Malena Zamfirova (snowboarding).

Category “Worthy Performance”: Alex Nikolov (volleyball), Bozhidar Saraboyukov (athletics), Milena Todorova (biathlon).

Category “Sustained Presence in World Sport”: Yoana Ilieva (fencing), Stiliana Nikolova (rhythmic gymnastics), Radoslav Rosenov (boxing).

Special awards for Paralympic and Deaflympic athletes: Ruzhdi Ruzhdi (Paralympics, athletics), Nikolay Hristov (Deaflympics, karate).

Category “Masters”: Petko Glavinov (swimming), Mihail Petrov (swimming).

Special awards of the “Bulgarian Sport” Foundation: Bulgaria U19 Women’s National Volleyball Team, Gabriela and Stefanie Stoeva (badminton), Kalina Boyadzhieva (kickboxing), Nikola Tsolov (motor sport), Ivan Ivanov (tennis), Hristiyan Kasabov, 18 (athletics), Stanislav Mitkov (taekwondo).
