The NSA celebrates the 100th anniversary of the birth of Yordan Toplodolski

The "Automobile and Motorcycle Sports" sector of the National Sports Academy celebrated the 100th anniversary of its founder, Yordan Toplodolski, with a solemn event.

The significant contribution of the legendary driver to the development of motor sports in Bulgaria was presented with an engaging biographical presentation by Assoc. Prof. Vladimir Iliev, a long-time head of the Auto-Moto sector in the Academy and navigator of Toplodolski.

The rector of NSA, Prof. Krasimir Petkov, congratulated the initiators of the event and emphasized that the memory of great personalities like Yordan Toplodolski will always remain alive, and the memories of his endless dedication to motor sports continue to inspire his successors today.

The event gathered prominent figures in motor sports, alumni of Yordan Toplodolski, veterans, former and current students from the "Automobile and Motorcycle Sports" specialty, representatives of the academic community, and sports organizations in the Educational and Olympic Center. Among the official guests were Prof. Nikolai Izov - Vice-Rector of NSA and Rector from 2019-2023, Prof. Lachezar Dimitrov – Rector from 2003-2012, former ministers of sports Assoc. Prof. Dimitar Iliev (five-time rally champion in the national championship) and Prof. Svilen Neykov, Prof. Lozan Mitev – head of the "History of Physical Education and Sports" sector, and others.

The Bulgarian crew Yordan Toplodolski/Vladimir Iliev won the championship title in the championship of socialist countries "Peace and Friendship" in 1973. This success played a key role in establishing motor sports in Bulgaria.

Yordan Toplodolski is one of the greatest names in Bulgarian motor sports, an honored master of sports in motorcycling and automobilism. He won many international endurance races, motocross, and multi-day competitions. He also set many speed records with motorcycles and achieved numerous successes in national and international rally competitions.
