RENY DAMJANOVA
Was born in Sofia on 21 February 1952 to the family of both architects
Krastio and Lyuba Damyanov’s. She graduated from 21 school “Hristo Bo-
st
tev”in Sofia, and went to obtain a university degree (specialising in Kinesio-
therapy) from the Higher Institute of Physical Culture “G. Dimitrov” (Currently:
Vassil Levski National Sports Academy).
She was a competitive swimmer for swimming clubs Spartak, Levski-
Spartak and Academic.
Upon completing her university studies with a Bachelor’s Degree, she
was appointed head of a district physiotherapy unit at the Republican Cen-
tre of Sports Medicine (RCSM). In 1975-76, following a selection process, she
was enrolled as a PhD student in the ‘Theory of Sport’ Department at the Na-
tional Sports Academy.
Reny Damjanova defended her first thesis in “Kinematics and swimming dynamics in the crawl
style” and obtained her PhD degree in 1979. She continued her scientific and teaching activities as
a researcher at the ‘Methodology and Metrology’ Division of the Unified Centre for Science and Train-
ing in Physical Education and Sport. She started her employment in the swimming sports’ laboratory
and later became the founder and head of the specialised Ergomechanics scientific laboratory. She
was responsible for providing information and for monitoring the preparation and sports’ realisation
of Bulgarian national and Olympic teams.
From 1982 to 1989 she was a permanent member of the Council for High Sports’ Achievements
of the Bulgarian Physical Education and Sports’ Union.
Since 1986, she has been a member of the Ecology Committee of the Bulgarian Olympic Com-
mittee (BOC). Upon her initiative, the first international seminar on “Application of information tech-
nologies in sport” under the auspices of the International Olympic Committee and BOC was orga-
nized for which she received a special personal award by the President of the International Olympic
Committee Juan Antonio Samaranch.
In 1991, following a competition procedure, she was appointed Associate Professor at the ‘Vassil
Levski’ National Sports Academy. For nearly 10 years, she was Deputy Head of the Department ‘The-
ory of sport’ and member of the State Examination Commissions. In 2001 she became one of the
founders of the Bulgarian Golf Association (BGA).
In 2008, she defended her second doctoral thesis in the field of didactic testing and was awarded
the degree ‘Doctor of science’. She conducted courses in Statistical Methods in Sport at the three
levels of higher education: Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral. Reny Damjanova initiated and con-

the curricula for the Bachelor’s course for golf teaching and a master‘s course in golf, where she is
also a leading teacher. She is a scientific consultant and translator of a number of international and
national legal documents, books and manuals, and manager of the first Bulgarian golf professionals
at Bachelor’s and Master’s level.
In 2012, she was appointed a full-time Professor at the National Sports Academy. She is the author
of a number of books, contributions and more than 100 scientific articles in the field of high-level
sportsmanship. She is a tutor and supervisor of graduate and doctoral students and a scientific advi-
sor for various scientific and applied projects in the field of sport. She has continued her teaching
activity in ‘Statistical methods in sport’ and ‘Golf’ at the National Sports Academy, and has been
responsible for the scientific support of national golf teams in Bulgaria. She has actively participated
as a competitor, judge and lecturer in the development and promotion of a number of sports, such
as water skiing, snowboarding, golf, swimming, tennis, sports aerobics, riding, weightlifting (women)
and sports dance.
Within the international academic exchange and training, she was seconded to Cuba (1974),
India (1989), Scotland (2005) and Canada (2018). With her scientific papers, she participated in a
number of prestigious international congresses and symposia: Biomechanics, Greece (1987), Sports
Congress, North Macedonia (2000, 2007, and 2011), France (2010), World Scientific Congress of Golf
(WSCG) — USA/Arizona (2001, 2004, and 2008), Australia (2014) and Scotland (2005, 2016), ICSEMIS
Olympic Scientific Congress — Science, Education and Medicine in Sport in Brazil/Santos (2016) etc.
She has been a member of the National and City Judges’ Panels in Skiing and Snowboarding,
Swimming and Golf. In 2001, she was elected Secretary of the Bulgarian Golf Association. Since 2000,
she has been a member of the International Trust of Researchers of the Royal and Ancient Golf
Club of St. Andrews, Scotland (WSCG).
Following a selection procedure for project evaluators under Erasmus +, the EU Programme for Ed-
ucation, Training, Youth and Sport, she was selected by the European Commission as a project evalu-
ator and attended a specialised theoretical and practical training course in Brussels.
She speaks German, English and Russian and uses Spanish.
She has one son — Krastio Preslavsky
