Published on 30 September 2024 ```html From September 23 to 30, 2024, the European Week of Sport was held for the tenth consecutive year - an initiative of the European Commission under the motto #BeActive. It inspires thousands of people across Europe to engage in sports activities and physical exercise. The event aims to raise awareness about the importance of an active lifestyle and encourages citizens to move more. This year, each day of the week was dedicated to a different cause. Friday, September 27, was designated as the Day of Inclusion in Sports - #BeInclusive. The National Sports Academy “Vasil Levski,” represented by the Adapted Physical Activity and Sports Sector and the Center for Competence in Sports, Adapted Physical Activity, and Educational Technologies, organized an inclusive multisport event in partnership with the Association for the Development of Bulgarian Sports. The initiative began with an open basketball training session organized by the Adapted Physical Activity and Sports Sector and the Unified Sports for All Club, where athletes with disabilities and students from NSA “Vasil Levski” trained and enjoyed together. Later, the event moved outdoors with various sports activities (boccia, field hockey, pickleball, darts, and fun games), allowing participants to enjoy sports, discover new opportunities for active living, and share the excitement of the European Week of Sport. 65 participants with disabilities from the Day Center "Sveta Marina," the Center for Social Services for Children and Youth with Disabilities "Hristo Botev" - Sofia, the Sixth Special School - Sofia, DPLUI Sonic Start - Ban˙, the “Adapted Sports” Club, as well as over 30 people from social institutions in Pernik and Petrich, along with their parents and caregivers, took part in the inclusive event as part of the Train4Family project. This project, co-financed by the Erasmus+ program of the European Union, aims to include children with disabilities and their families in social life, improve their quality of life, bring them closer to their families, engage them in sports recreational activities, and healthy eating, creating an environment that facilitates their development. Students from the bachelor's and master's degree programs at the “AFAS” and “Basketball” sectors of NSA contributed to the successful implementation of the events as volunteers. ``` |
